Biography of Richard (Dick) Zunkel
Dick Zunkel studied machine design and art at Bradley University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. He continued art studies at Wingate College (now a University) in North Carolina, and the San Francisco Art Institute. He maintained his interest in art throughout his career as an engineer and business owner until retirement in 2007. He works in several media but prefers to paint plein-air watercolor. He has had an interest in cartooning since childhood, but only realized his ambition to become a professional cartoonist in 2015 as a result of developments in computer graphics and hardware. Dick and his wife Salinda, also an artist, make their home in San Jose, California.
