Cartoonwerk
My cartoons about art and artists first appeared on "Facebook" in December 2015. In 2016 my cartoons appeared on the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society web site and later on the monthly newsletter. I drew for the Society until 2023. My wife, Salinda, remains a member and I often accompany her on plein air paintouts as time permits.
During my motorcycle days I met \for breakfast with fellow BMW motorcycle owners every Saturday morning for over thirty years. I was a "newbie." The group had been meeting since 1965. The common interest was our unofficial leader Joachim Groeger, toolmaker and vintage BMW motorcycle expert. "Joe" rode motorcycles into his 90's. He passed away just short of his 100th birthday. The remnants of the group still meets weekly for breakfast. One of our members invited me to draw for a vintage motorcycle publication. I began drawing cartoons for "Vintage Motorcycle Owners Club" quarterly magazine in 2010. The club is a has an international membership. I still draw for the magazine. I owned a 1964 BMW R60/2 for 40 years.
The phrase "everything is connected to everything else," led me to the Northern California BMW Motorcycle Club monthly magazine. I've been publishing cartoons for their magazine "NorCal News" for the past ten years.
My dad was a physician and surgeon. Growing up in a medical environment affects one's outlook on life. I opted not to follow in his footsteps. However, my years living in a medical household were a ideal source for cartoons about doctors and medicine. I ventured into four panel cartoons about five years ago. I only publish on social media. It's just recreation, unlike "career" drawing for motorcycle magazines. Drawing four panel color cartoons is not simple and easy.
